Thinking Out Loud

Hi, guys! I hope everyone is fully recovered from New Year’s Eve by now. I might have had just a wee bit too much wine, but that’s what celebrating is all about. So, no regrets!

new year

I’m linking up with Amanda for this weeks edition of Thinking Out Loud. This couldn’t have come on a more perfect day because I’ve got lots of randomness to share with y’all!

Thinking-Out-Loud

It took a lot of urging with myself, but I was able to get my lazy butt out the door for a 14 mile run. I just had to ring in 2014 with 14! Considering I ran 13 miles last New Year’s Day; next year is looking a little scary. ;)

14

Just FYI, drinking almost a full bottle of wine and eating too much cake the night before a 14 mile run is not a wise decision. I felt fine when I woke up, so I thought all was good. My run went great and luckily when I got home I had some Muscle Milk to help me refuel. But it wasn’t long after I had been home that I got sick and I mean REALLY sick. I’m glad that I was able to get the run in, but the rest of the day was pretty much wasted because I felt like sh$%t for several hours. Yuck!

The people at Muscle Milk are soooooo generous. They are sponsoring the ZOOMA race in Austin and as an ambassador they sent over Muscle Milk Light to help fuel our training runs. These are delicious and the nutritional stats are pretty awesome too! They contain 20 essential vitamins and minerals, are sugar, lactose and gluten-free and depending on size have 14-30 grams of protein.

If you’re interested in running a half-marathon, 10k or 5k in April, with me (in Austin, TX); register here—> http://zoomarun.com/texas/registration/and use code TXAMB4 for a 10% discount. ZOOMA races are supposed to be AWESOME. This will be my first one and I’m so excited!

Have you made your slideshow with 2013 photos, yet? I had so much fun with this Tuesday night. Get the free app, Flipagram. You can use any photos, even those from Facebook and set your slideshow to music.

I was sure to eat my black-eyed-peas for prosperity in the new year…. taco style with guacamole! This Spicy Mexican Black-Eyed-Pea Casserole is good any day of the year!

I already shared with you how much I loved the novel, Me Before You, by JoJo Moyes and that I would be reading The Girl Left Behind, by the same author. I’m not completely finished with The Girl You Left Behind, but I’m really loving it and totally anxious to see how it ends. Two winners in a row!!!!!

And I’ll leave you with a quote that I came across the other day and really liked.

Something to think about…..

Have you read any of Jojo Moyes books? Or any other really great books, lately?

Have you ever tried Muscle Milk? Do you drink any type of special shake after working out?

Did you eat anything special for New Year’s Day?

Have such a great Thursday!!!!!!!!!

  1. How fantastic! I know the feeling of banging out a long run after a night of…well…enjoying oneself. :\ I will definitely check out the Jojo Moyes books you’ve mentioned. Since there are probably feet of snow accumulating outside at this very moment, I might need some new cabin material.

The boyfriend and I had our black-eyed peas last night. He has never had them, and wanted seconds! Hooray for introducing a new tradition! :) Your taco version looks amazing!

  2. I have grown up being forced to eat black eyed peas every New years Day for good luck (I don’t like them), but this year I actually enjoyed them! My mom and aunt both made two different dips that incorporated black eyed peas and they were delicious! I still wouldn’t have liked them by themselves though. :) I love that you ran 14 miles for 2014!

  3. Props to starting out the new year on such a good note! I’m honestly not sure I would have been able to work up the motivation to get that kind of a run in after NYE… especially since it was like -1000000 outside ;) And I’ve never read any of the books by Jojo Moyes, but I’ll be on the lookout for a new book after I finish reading The Last Unicorn, so I may just have to pick one of those up.

  4. Major props to you for running 14 miles on New Years Day – and after a bottle of wine the night before! I love Muscle Milk after a good workout, especially when it is warm outside and the mile is super cold (liquid smoothie). My NYD splurge was my husband’s homemade hummus – delish! Thanks for the Dr. Seuss quote – so true!

  5. I’m always looking for new books to read, thanks for the recommendation! Not sure if you’re a coffee gal, but I like to add the choco flavor Muscle Milk in my coffee! Just to spice up my mornings sometimes ;)

    • I’ve only tried the chocolate muscle milk and it tastes a lot like chocolate milk. It’s pretty tasty! Happy New Year!

  6. I REALLY wanted to run 14km yesterday but I woke up sick and had a date with the couch instead. Boo. I’m hoping to make it up this weekend.

I didn’t have black eyed peas, but did eat leftover hash with brats and sauerkraut and then I found out it’s good luck to eat that on Jan 1, so I’m pretty happy about that!

I’m going to have to add those two books to my (really long) reading list.

    • Sorry you were sick. Hopefully, you’ll feel better this weekend and you can make it happen! My reading list is sooo long too!

  7. Kim,
I love the Dr. Seuss quote too! But I have to ask, if you run in Texas, doesn’t it get really hot in the summer? How do you run then in the summer? Just curious. But a really great post, thanks for the plethora of information and insight!
