Killer HIIT Workout

I did this workout yesterday and I loved it so much, I may just do it again today. It’s not easy….in a good way!

If you’re not familiar with what a HIIT workout is, this is taken straight from bodybuilding.com.

HIIT is a training idea in which low to moderate intensity intervals are alternated with high intensity intervals.

HIIT can be applied to running or to exercises such as squatting. HIIT is considered to be much more effective than normal cardio because the intensity is higher and you are able to increase both your aerobic and anaerobic endurance while burning more fat than ever before.

“In research, HIIT has been shown to burn adipose tissue more effectively than low-intensity exercise – up to 50% more efficiently.” It has also been shown to speed up your metabolism which helps you burn more calories throughout the day. (www.musclemedia.com)

Just do steps #1-6….that’s it. Believe me, you’ll feel the burn! Notice after the last 10 minute stretch of running; you’ll be doing all interval workouts (one right after the other). Yeah….it’s not easy…..

I really liked this workout for several reasons:

  1. I felt like I got a GREAT workout in.
  2. The interval exercises didn’t take very long, but they were challenging.
  3. The whole hour stayed really interesting and I never once was bored.
  4. I was one sweaty mess after the hour!

Something to think about……

Have you ever done a HIIT workout? Pretty hard, huh?

  3. I love these kind of workouts! I miss having access to a treadmill (I do run outside but to be honest I kinda prefer the treadmill). I have a CrossFit memebership, so no treadmills there, lol.

  4. That is intense! Don’t forget that if you are just starting out, you could cut that routine in half and still have an awesome workout. Like 5 minutes of jogging/10 squat jumps, 5 minutes jogging/8 burpees/, etc.

    Just start!
