Happy Friday everyone!! Any special plans this weekend? I have a fun night planned with some girls from work. We’re meeting up at a fun restaurant in downtown Fort Worth. Saturday and Sunday will be pretty low-key. Landen has make-up gymnastics on Saturday, but the rest of the weekend will be spent relaxing and working on some new recipes {hopefully some winners}.
Let’s keep things light and fun today, since it is Friday after all. Janae, one of my very favorite bloggers over at hungryrunnergirl.com posted a “running popquiz” about a week ago and I thought I’d give it a try.
1. FUEL: Shot Bloks, GU, Energy Chews, Candy or Other?
I only used fuel during my runs when I was training for and running the full marathon. I tried the GU (gel) first and nearly lost my marbles. I don’t see how anyone can get that down….it was disgusting!! Next, I tried Shot Bloks and that’s what I stuck with. They weren’t great, but they were tolerable. I only use fuel when I’m running 16 or more miles; anything under that and I’m good with a good preworkout meal and water while running.
2. Race Length: 5k, 10k, 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, Ultra or Other?
Races I’ve ran are the 5k, 1/2 Marathon and Marathon. Out of those three, my favorite is the 1/2, however the full made me feel the best {after it was over
}. I actually think a 10k would be my favorite out of all of these, though. A normal every day run for me is 6-7 miles, so this one just makes sense….I don’t know why I’ve never run one. Okay, new goal…run a 10k in 2013.
After the full marathon. Notice the pants….VERY cold, rainy weather!
3. Workout Bottoms: Skirts, Running Shorts, Capris, Pants or Other?
No question, my favorite thing to wear while running is running shorts, but when it’s cold I have to go for carpris or pants.
4. Sports Drink: Gatorade, Powerade, Cytomax, you stick to water when you run or Other?
I’ve never drank anything, but water. I actually just don’t like sports drinks. During one of my races, I grabbed a drink thinking it was water, but when I took a drink it was Gatorade and I had to spit it out. I am always so paranoid about drinking or eating something and getting stomach cramps plus it tastes gross to me.
5. Running Temperatures: HEAT or COLD?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m very picky about the weather outside when I run. If it’s not pretty much perfect, I’d rather run on a treadmill. But if I have to pick, I’ll go with heat….I know I’m crazy, but the cold can be so painful.
6. Running Shoe Brands: Suacony, Mizuno, Nike, Brooks, Asics or Other?
The only running shoes I’ve ever worn are Asics or Brooks. I used to always wear Asics Keyanos {a stability shoe}, but after having knee problems, getting fitted for orthotics and needing a neutral shoe; I’ve been running with Brooks and love them. I ran my marathon in the Ghost-4 and currently have the Ghost-5.
7. Pre-race meal: Oatmeal, Bagel, Banana, Eggs, Cereal or Other?
I ate Kashi Go-Lean cereal with fruit and almond milk before my half marathons, but before my marathon I had a big fluffy bagel with almond butter and a banana. It held me, with no stomach or bathroom issues.
8. Rest Days: 1x per week, 2x or more per week, never ever or Other?
I used to always rest 2 days/week. When I was training for the marathon I was following a plan that had 1 rest day/week. Right now my life is so crazy with all of my kiddos’ activities that I’m usually taking 3 rest days/week.
9. Music: Have to have it or go without it?
No doubt about it, have to have it. I’ve experimented listening to music and not listening and I’m much faster when listening. I posted about it here.
10. #1 reason for running: stress-relief, endorphins, you love to race, so you can eat all the cupcakes you want, weight-loss, love running for social reasons or other?
I have to say, my #1 reason for running is to manage my weight and stay healthy. I also love the added bonus of endorphins and the way a great run makes me feel.

Have a fun weekend!!

I used to use honey for an all natural “gu”. I also prefer running in a running skirt. So comfortable! And, I love my Brooks Adrenelines.
happy Friday!

I just did this quiz on my blog too
I’m the same when it comes to running weather, if it’s not perfect I’d rather run on my treadmill! And I too feel like a rock star when my running matches the beat of what I’m listening to

Lisa @ Jogging on Coffee Running Quiz
Would you mind sharing what your pace is? I am new to running (almost 1 year) and I have a feeling that I am waaay slower than you, lol. So I think that I may need shot books on anything 6 miles are more. It takes me an hour to run 4 miles. I just wondering because I’m not sure I could go 16 without fueling with more than water or sports drink.
I typically run between an 8-9 minute mile and my daily run is 7 miles, which takes me a little over an hour. I’m not a professional expert, but just giving advice from my own experience. I would just go with what feels right to you. If it takes you about an hour and a half to run 6 miles, I still wouldn’t think you would need shot blocks. Be sure you eat a carb heavy snack about 20-30 mins before your run and you should be good. However, if you start feeling light-headed or just major fatigue, then go ahead and take a shot block. You can always bring them on your run just in case. I hope this was helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions.
